Business - Marketing
What is it about the dark recesses of mankind's tendency that prevails on us to part with our hard earned cash so that we can sit in a darkened auditorium with a congregation of people we do not even know? Does it hearken back to the time long ago when our ancestry viewed in amazement the shadows dancing on the cave walls? What is this that reminds us of the time long ago when our ancestry sat and watched in amazement the cave walls as illusions danced around them? We elect to part with our cash so that we can sit in a darkened auditorium with complete strangers! After Louis Lumiere produced the first picture camera in 1895, some part of the hominid medulla oblongata suggested that there was something fundamentally missing. It was sound. So a musical instrument was enlisted into the process to accompany the flickering pictures. How far the drive-in theaters have come since the orginal days. The ambience back then was conditioned by the sound of the burning fire. With the revival house it became obvious how popular audio accompaniment was. The producers recognized the huge demand for sound yet could not produce enough material for the market. This created a completely new element to the entertainment 'industry' as it became known - it was - Pitching. It derived from baseball in which the Pitcher pitches the ball. People began promoting their movies or ideas and pitching became generic term. So actors and agents began pitching scripts directly to the studios. The spell was shattered in 1877 by Thomas Edison the great inventor - he invented the phonograph. Quickly patenting his early cylinder phonograph, he then went on to create the first recordable disc. Now, background sound of the burning fire was without warning taken from the shadows and into the center stage. Pictures could speak. Those ephemeral flickering silver images actually could speak! It was as though the cavern walls had come to life. The excitement it caused can barely be understood in this day and age. People literally fled from the revival house, believing that the illusions on the screen had literally come alive. The audience would see the same movie multiple times. There was awe and wonder at this strange magic that could be conjured up on any suitably darkened wall. Many actors became major stars and became central to the overall financial health of the studios. It was no longer about which movies the studio made, but which actors they had under contract. For several years one movie would travel around the country entertaining sold out multiplexes . After some very publicized Hollywood scandals, many of the cultural icons began to fall - they were simply human being just like everyone else. Suddenly, the previous day' s celebrities could no longer find any work, since the studios controlled all aspects of the film industry. They had effectively become blacklisted from working in Hollywood. In order to locate work, many talented actors secretly began to learn how to write a screenplay and released their scripts under assumed names out of necessity. A single name represented the developing excitement that lead to a completely new art form. This was Walt Disney. Disney was single-handedly responsible for the cartoon animation and the developing fanchises. The claymation held everyone in thrall. Soon many revival house began making their own movies. The market for movies was insatiable. Gradually individual genres such as oaters (long forgotten cowboy movie term - horses eat oats) drew dedicated followings. With this unprecedented upsurge in movies screenwriters realized that in the name of modern efficiency, they would have to use screenplay writing software in order to keep up with demand. This expansive technological development has given rise to an explosion of materials available to cable TV. The success of the Disney opportunity has lead to summer acting camps across the US. These camps commonly last a few days and touch all aspects of screenwriting and acting. After WW2 smaller studios with lesser budgets developed experimental films which drew people to their theaters where they eagerly purchased their movie tickets. The friday night film became almost a therapy session for many people that worked hard during the week and needed some light relief from their commonplace week. How often have you heard people ask how to get into acting? Well, it is said, slowly, slowly, catchee monkey, but the individualistic method is a recommended way to approach it. So if you want to start acting, simply jump in and believe! A unique side of the film industry is Voice Over Acting. Surprising as it seems, there is very little competition for work. By Voiceover or Voice Over Acting we mean those melodious voices that impel us to buy every concoction known to man. When you hear James Earl Jones voice as Darth Vader, you will observe great voice over acting. Often these fledgling thespians saw that there was greater opportunity and signed up for acting workshops where they could develop their art. Where can you begin when writing screenplays? Well, getting back to basics you will need a way of capturing the screenplay if you are going to present it to any producer. In the bygone times people used typewriters - but this leads to frequent rewrites. With computers and screenwriting software, these technicalities have become almost surplus to requirement. Now there is screenplay writing software that takes all the guesswork out of understanding screenplay formats. Now you can simply focus on the story and press a button - the script is reassembled in the correct screenplay format for screenplays, novels, sitcoms - just the way the industry requires. Almost instantly you have become a screenplay writer, ready to submit your masterpiece to all and any of the escalating screenplay competitions. Finally, the key tips many Hollywood screenwriters point to as career landmarks are
